Welcome to the Business Ideas section. Watch this video, I’m going to give you a quick start guide on how to start a gardening supply business online. Gardening is said to be one of the most stress-relieving hobbies that one can have. And since it’s an interest based business that means you’ll have plenty of customers to serve. People who garden will always need supplies to continue their hobby and that’s where you’ll come in.

So, here’s what you’ll need to get started:

Get a Business Plan - If you have no idea how this business operates, I recommend you first download a business plan at Bplans .com.

Next, you’ll need a Supplier - If you want to get started right away, I recommend googling "drop ship garden suppliers" and choose a reliable vendor. The benefits of this is that you can start it even if you don’t have a lot of money. You can have thousands of products for sale in your store right away without actually needing to buy any of them. Or, if you’d rather buy and store your own inventory, google the words “wholesale gardening supplies” and you can select a company to buy from.

Then, Register your business & apply for an EIN Number -  You can easily get started with just an LLC. I recommend you use MyCorporation.com to get this done.

After that, open a Business Bank Account - Once you get your incorporation paperwork and EIN, You can work with your local bank or choose a new one to open a business account.

Next, Setup A Website - I recommend BlueHost because they are the most reliable for garden supply e-commerce stores and there are a lot of garden supply templates available for wordpress websites online.

After this, Setup a Merchant Account - I recommend paypal or square, I only use those two to accept payments online.

Last, Get a Logo & Marketing Materials - I recommend 99 Designs, the garden supply company branding process is quick and their customer support for new customers is amazing.

Now, that you’re all setup...Where’s the money going to come from? Here’s what you’ll need to sell in order to take a check to the bank:

Since you are a gardening supplies store you’ll be selling tools & equipment, gardening training courses & guides, you can also start a gardening magazine or a monthly email newsletter where you’ll sell ads to brands. It would also be a good idea to start hosting your own gardening events and seminars where you can sell booth space to vendors.

To maximize your profits, You’ll want to add a healthy mix of products and services. For example, you can sell garden design services, subscription services for lawn care, lawn protection or restoration. A fun way to make even more money would be to create a Local Gardeners Directory and sell listings to those offering the specific services catering to local markets.
